Kindergarten Readiness Assessment | Thursday, July 23, 2026

This is for all incoming kindergarten students. Our kindergarten readiness screening is an assessment given to young children before they enter kindergarten. It evaluates a child's basic skills, including language, math, motor skills, and social development.

It's a quick and simple screening to help us better support your child's success at Sawyer Road Elementary.

We are offering two screening sessions:

• 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM
• 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

After-School & Before-School Programs

Advanced registration is required within ten days of enrollment in Marietta City Schools if you anticipate needing either BSP or ASP at any time during the 2026-2027 school year.

A student ID number is required for registration. Please call the school at 770-429-9923 and ask for your child's student ID number.

Registration is only for new students. The registration deadline has passed for all returning students.

Ready, Set, Ride! | Thursday, July 30, 2026

Every year, the MCS Transportation Department hosts a Ready, Set, Ride Day. Parents and Students can ride the bus. You will be picked up at your bus stop and ride along the route to Sawyer Road Elementary. The bus driver will then return you home to your bus stop.

The bus will pick you up at your regular bus stop and scheduled time, just like the first day of school. You can locate your child's bus route by visiting the MCS Bus Route Page.

Free/Reduced Lunch Applications

All new & returning students should fill out the application. Families that apply and are eligible could receive free or reduced-priced breakfast and lunch during the school year. We're asking that all SRE families submit an application through the LINQ Connect Free & Reduced Meal Application.

Marietta, GA – Jill Waldrep has been named the new principal of Sawyer Road Elementary School. She was approved by the MCS Board of Education in a unanimous vote last night. Waldrep, a dedicated and experienced educator with 27 years in education, brings a deep commitment to student achievement, instructional excellence, and relationship-building to her new role. 

Currently serving as Assistant Principal at A.L. Burruss Elementary, Waldrep has played a vital role in fostering a collaborative and student-centered learning environment. Her leadership has been instrumental in improving student outcomes through data-driven instruction, structured professional learning communities, and a strong focus on literacy.“I am honored to join the Sawyer Road community, and I’m eager to work alongside students, families, and staff to continue the school’s legacy of excellence,” Waldrep said. “I believe in building strong relationships, being visible and accessible, and ensuring every child receives the support they need to succeed. I look forward to a collaborative and impactful school year ahead.”

Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a passion for literacy and curriculum development, leveraging her training in the Science of Reading to sustain and enhance academic growth. Waldrep’s expertise in instructional best practices and commitment to professional capacity-building have helped drive student success in Marietta City Schools.

“Jill Waldrep is a thoughtful and dedicated leader who puts students first,” said Superintendent Dr. Grant Rivera. “She cares deeply about building strong bonds with families and staff and has a track record of supporting student success. Her passion and abilities will make an immediate and lasting impact on Sawyer Road.”

Waldrep’s career in education began in Cobb County before she joined MCS in 2015. In addition to Burruss, she also served as an Assistant Principal at Lockheed Elementary, where she significantly impacted student achievement and school culture. Her leadership philosophy centers on trust, clear communication, and ensuring all students feel heard, valued, and supported.
